The electricity market reform and construction in China brings challenges to the development of ancillary service mechanism. In this process

the experiences of foreign ancillary markets should be taken as references. At present

the ancillary market in the United Kingdom(UK)

which is independent of its energy market

is a valuable reference for Chinese current electricity market. Therefore

this paper focuses on the operation and payment mechanisms of short-term operation reserve(STOR)service

a typical ancillary service in the UK ancillary market

to get inspiration about the development and construction of ancillary market in China.
