In view of the accommodation problem of wind power with increasing penetration levels in actual power grids
this paper proposes a robust unit commitment optimization method considering pumped storage units. The proposed robust unit commitment model is aimed to minimize the system operation cost and the penalty cost of curtailment boundaries of wind power. Security constraints for transmission lines are taken into account
and the adjustment strategy of the temporal and spatial uncertainty budgets of wind power is also considered to avoid the over-conservative robust optimal solution. Moreover
the fluctuation interval of wind power is optimized according to the affine compensation mechanism of adjustable units(including automatic generation control(AGC)units and pumped storage units)responding to the fluctuation of wind power. The developed model is then transformed into a single-layer mixed integer linear programming(MILP)problem. Finally
the feasibility and validity of the proposed model are verified by the numerical tests on a modified IEEE 30-bus system
and the effect of the pumped storage unit on the economical operation of power system and the accommodation capacity of wind power are quantitatively evaluated.
