The fault current of DC line rises rapidly because of the discharge of capacitor after the occurrence of fault in DC distribution network based on voltage source converters(VSC). The fragile electronic devices in the inverter require the DC breaker operate faster than the traditional AC breaker. With regard to the application of fault current limiter(FCL)in DC systems
not only the DC-side fault current but also the current at the AC side and in the converter itself should be limited during a DC fault. Considering the whole-system current-limiting capability
a new current limiter based on full-controlled transistor is proposed. According to the fault transient process of bipolar short-circuit fault
the current-limiting principle is analyzed in detail. Meanwhile
the selection standard and theoretical calculating method of the resistor are also discussed. Finally
simulation tests based on PSCAD/EMTDC are carried out to verify the effectiveness of this limiting scheme.
