By using multi-point information of regional power grid
the traveling wave fault location can reduce the number of fault location equipment and increase the credibility of the location results. An algorithm using traveling wave data in the time domain is proposed to simultaneously select the fault line and locate the fault point. Firstly
the rough value of fault distance is calculated based on the wave velocity contrast between zero-mode and line-mode. Then the fault line is selected without relying on protection action information
and the invalid data are rejected at the same time. Combining with the advantages of the single-terminal and the double-terminal traveling wave fault location methods
an accurate fault distance is obtained by using multi-terminal data
while the quality of the location results is improved. Finally
the simulation results show that a reliable and accurate location result can be obtained for all lines
even with limited location equipment in the network. This work is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China(No. 51507091).
