A new pilot protection algorithm for distribution network with distributed generators (DGs) is proposed. By analyzing fault current amplitude characteristic of distribution network with DGs
a conclusion is confirmed that current amplitudes are significantly different under ordinary DG penetration. And the conclusion supports the new idea that current amplitude difference can be used to distinguish fault condition in distribution network with DGs. The only needed information is the measured impedance of equivalent source and current amplitude of the other end
and no compulsory phase synchronization is needed. The new method tolerates the calculating error caused by inverter-based distributed generator and is practical. This work is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 51377022
