A current limiting DC hybrid circuit breaker (CB) based on a combinatorial electronic power switch is studied. The combinatorial electronic power switch is designed to reduce the series connecting number of power electronic devices
a specifically designed current limiting circuit is used to arrest the rising speed of the fault current. Another contribution of this paper is the parameter design of the CB and the configuration of the combinatorial switch. The accuracy of the method is proved by the simulation results
showing that the proposed CB is not just able to limit the current rising rate when fault occurs
it significantly reduces the volume and cost of power electronic devices. This work is supported by National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program) (No. 2013AA050103).
