There is a strong degree of correlation between the dynamic responses of low-voltage grid and high-voltage grid after large disturbances. By monitoring low-voltage grid synchronously
not only it is possible to fully capture the dynamic behaviors of the distribution network
but also the dynamics of the major network can be captured to some extent. The concepts of phasor measurement unit light (PMU Light) and wide-area measurement system light (WAMS Light) are proposed
to achieve synchronized monitoring of the low-voltage grid. Supplemented with a definite signal processing means
WAMS Light is able to monitor the local dynamics and part of the global dynamics at once. With PMUs Light deployed at several universities in China
which cover six large regional power grids
the first domestic set of WAMS Light has been accomplished
which has recorded a large amount of local dynamics and response data at different monitoring spots. The set of WAMS Light has become a direct platform for universities and research institutes to obtain dynamic response measurement data of power grid. It has broad application prospects in wide-ranging areas for its extremely low cost of convenient deployment at different places. In collaboration with the traditional WAMS
it is used with ease to build a panoramic synchronized dynamic monitoring system covering both the low-voltage grid and high-voltage grid.
