Based on the analysis of the dynamic models and operating characteristics of wind power generation systems and microturbines,a method for smoothing the fluctuations of wind power by using controllable microturbines is proposed to improve the voltage quality. The model of the hybrid microgrid with wind power generation systems and microturbines is developed, and its control strategy is studied. In the hybrid microgrid, the wind power generation systems share the baseload of the feeders, while the microturbines share the remaining loads of the feeders for use as reserves to smooth the fluctuations of wind power during wind speed changing to achieve optimal control of bus voltage. The PSCAD-based simulation results of the proposed method show that should there be a gust of wind,a gradually changing wind or other wind disturbances, the system voltage fluctuations can be effectively suppressed;when the line goes faulty, the system voltage fluctuations and voltage recovery time can be effectively mitigated.
