A new operation control strategy for battery energy storage system (BESS) called pre-control strategy is proposed for smoothing the short-term fluctuations of wind powers in order to improve the wind farm’s output characteristics. The pre-control strategy takes into account the influence of future wind power on the current charging and discharging of BESS based on the current simple control strategy. It is a prospective decision-making method. The concept of trusted cycle for wind power prediction is introduced in the pre-control strategy
and the dynamic control of BESS is realized by rolling optimization calculation. This method can reduce the influence of the state of charge (SOC) constraints on the BESS charging and discharging
while effectively improve the utilization efficiency of batteries. Finally
the power output characteristics of a large-scale wind power and BESS combined system is studied by the using operation strategy
and the results show the efficiency of the proposed strategy.
