This paper summarizes the existing low voltage ride through(LVRT) methods from power flow prospective, and proposes a LVRT control strategy based on the electromechanical energy storage. The generator-side converter maintains DC-link voltage while the grid-side converter tracks the maximum power point of wind energy. This control strategy combines braking resistor with greatly reduced cooling requirements and variable-pitch structure technology, can make full use of the wind turbines inertial characteristics to store the imbalanced energy and realize LVRT smoothly, without increasing control complexity and system costs significantly. The correctness and validity of this LVRT control strategy is verified through MATLAB simulation of a 1.5 MW permanent magnet synchronous generator(PMSG) wind generation system.
