A new type of controllable load used in power system is proposed. There are two main features for this controllable load: first, different types of loads can be simulated under different operating conditions; second, the energy absorbed by controllable load could be returned to the grid, in such a way that the energy feedback capability is implemented, and the energy pollution can be eliminated. Two voltage source PWM converters are designed as the main topology structure of this energy feedback controllable load, which consists of a controllable load current generation unit(CLCGU) and an energy feedback unit(EFU). Both of these two units are connected to the grid through a LCL filter. The mathematical model of controllable load is established. PI closed-loop control module is employed in CLCGU, while outer voltage loop and inner current loop control strategy is used in EFU. Frequency domain analysis is adopted to investigate the system stability. The simulation results verify that this controllable load can work stably and at the same time reach its desired functions. Conclusions can be arrived that the control scheme and parameters are feasible. It will provide a theoretical basis for the prototype development.
