Substation network video surveillance system， namely， remote vision system has resolved some remote monitoring problems in unattended substations. Multiple substations can achieve simultaneously on-line remote video monitoring by applying streaming media servers in monitoring centers. Considering that traditional streaming media server system based on x86 PC in Windows operating system is deficient in safety， stability and efficiency， a new design of high-performance streaming media server is proposed based on embedded Linux system. Featured as low cost and low power loss and enhanced stability， this new streaming media server can be regarded as a preferable alternative to existing remote streaming media server devices.
