A new AC-DC hybrid current-limiting circuit breaker(HCLCB) based on high speed repulsion driving switch is researched. At fault conditions the HCLCB firstly experiences a forced current switching process and the current of high speed electromagnetic repulsion switch is reduced nearly to zero when the contact separation starts; then it experiences a natural ZVS process and the current of electromagnetic repulsion switch is transferred to the diodes. The theoretical analysis and simulation of commutation are carried out and four interrupting cases are analyzed. A 400 V/500 A hybrid current-limiting circuit breaker has been realized. The limiting tests of different d i /d t validate that the theoretical analysis is correct.
