The regional security and stability control system for Western Power Grid of Qinghai in China consists of control devices installed at 7 stations. When faults occured on the connecting lines between the main part of Qinghai Power Grid and Western Power Grid of Qinghai， the measures， such as shedding load， tripping generator and switching on-off capacitor or reactor banks according to bus voltage of every power plant/station， are adopted to prevent wide area blackout and ensure the secure and stable operation of Western Power Grid of Qinghai. The system configuration， characters and new control strategies of the regional security and stability control system for Western Power Grid of Qinghai are presented in this paper.
