In order to solve problems faced in protection scheme of single component of power equipment such as: complicated secondary circuit， low reliability， difficulty in information sharing with conventional protection， a new wide-area integrated protection system scheme in digital substation is proposed. Both main and backup protection functions for substation components are respectively integrated into a completed digital system in the new scheme. In the meantime， the wide-area backup protection is implemented using information of multi-point of area power grid including local substation in the new scheme. The analysis proves that simplification of network configuration of digital substation and improvement of overall protection system performance can also be obtained in the new scheme.
