This paper introduces the structure and constitution of a new generation distributed phasor measurement unit（PMU） based on wide area synchro-sampling technology， and describes its characteristics from such aspects as system structure， hardware and software structure， communication interface and global positioning system（GPS） synchro-sampling. An application test report from East China Electric Power Test & Research Institute has been gotten about the PMU. The result of dynamic model test is also provided.
