Upon analyzing CIM model deficiency in describing protection information， a general protection database model is proposed based on its application in the simulation and training system. The model can reflect real-life protection equipments from internal structure and external characteristics. Based on it， the efficiency of maintaining protection database is greatly improved. The model allows users to configure their protection relays as a whole， to extend by user defining new type of protections， and to automatically update protection configurations after equipments upgrading. Simulation and training systems based on the proposed model are operating well and easy to maintain， which effectively validate the model.
