In view of the difficulties in load modeling of the wide area power grid and by referring to the daily load curve of the power grid
a synthetic load modeling methodology is proposed by integrating the component-based statistical synthesis approach and measurement-based identification approach. Following an analysis of the typical daily load curve of all the 220 kV (or 110 kV) load substations
the load composition in each substation is obtained. Then according to the load composition
all substations are classified with the hierarchical cluster analysis. With the clustering results
the load model parameters measured at several typical substations can be extended to other substations in the same class. The method has been successfully applied to Henan Power Grid and Fujian Power Grid. The results show the simplicity and effectiveness of the new method.
