The reactive power dynamic characteristics of high voltage direct current(HVDC)transmission system are strongly correlated with the HVDC control
which has a significant effect on the AC fault recovery characteristics of the AC grid at the receiving terminal. So the interaction between HVDC control and reactive dynamic characteristics and its effect on AC fault recovery are studied. Firstly
the inherent reactive dynamic characteristic of HVDC system during the AC fault at the receiving terminal is analyzed. On this basis
an alternative method of voltage dependent current order limitation(VDCOL)in HVDC is proposed
where the relationship among the DC current command
the AC bus voltage and the reactive power exchange capacity is studied. Then
according to the different levels of the AC bus voltage
the reactive power exchange capacity of the AC system and the converter station is further studied. Finally
the simulation proves that the improved VDCOL proposed can improve the system fault recovery performance and reduce the probability of commutation failure.
