A kind of novel bridge type solid state fault current limiter is proposed
which is composed of diodes
thyristors
and current limiting reactance. In normal operation of the power system
the novel fault current limiter runs in the rectifying bridge mode
in which mode the influence on the system is very small. When short circuit fault occurs
the current limiting reactance can automatically limit the first peak of the short circuit current without delay. Through the control of the thyristors
the device can switch from rectifying bridge mode to current limiting mode to limit the value of short circuit current in steady state. Without bypass current limiting reactance and full control device
the scheme has a simple structure and high reliability. The control strategy of the scheme is proposed
and the feasibility and technological advantages of the scheme are proved by simulation analysis and comparison with the traditional bridge type fault current limiter.
