In order to eliminate the impact of rotor speed recovery process of the conventional kinetic energy control on the frequency response
an improved frequency control strategy for doubly-fed induction generator(DFIG)based wind turbines based on rotor kinetic energy control is proposed. This scheme aims to make DFIG-based wind turbines stably operate at a low speed after releasing its kinetic energy through introducing a constant additional power. And the rotor speed recovery process would not start until system frequency returns to normal value
so as to improve frequency response. The model of four-machine two-area system with DFIG-based wind turbines is developed by MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results show that
compared with the conventional rotor kinetic energy control
the proposed control method is able to effectively eliminate the impact of the rotor speed recovery process on the frequency response
and the performance of wind turbines participating into frequency regulation is improved. This work is supported by International Cooperation Program from Science and Technology Office of Sichuan Province(No. 2015HH0055).
