The impact of wind power integration on small signal stability of the regional power system is an important problem in the field of clean energy generation. In particular
the influence of the way to increase the penetration of wind power on power system damping ratio is studied. Firstly
a 7th-order mathematical model of wind power generation sets for small signal stability analysis is analyzed and improved. Small signal stability of high penetration wind power integration on regional power grid is simulated based on the established model. The influence of two ways including reducing output of power units and exiting operation of power units to increase the penetration on regional power grid small signal stability is analyzed
and the effect of the spinning reserve is taken into account in the condition of reducing output of power units. Simulation results show that system damping ratio is not monotonic in the case of reducing output of power units to increase wind power penetration
and in the case of exiting operation of power units to improve the penetration of wind power
the system damping ratio continues to decline with the increase of penetration. This work is supported by National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program) (No. 2012AA050201).
