Aimed at integrating remote large scale wind power generated by wind turbines based on permanent magnet synchronous generator(PMSG)
an approach to modular multilevel converter based high voltage direct current(MMC-HVDC)system using overhead lines is studied. But overhead lines are vulnerable to faults
the MMC-HVDC system suffers unstable operation and MMC blocking when DC faults or AC faults happen. In order to solve the DC and AC fault ride-through problem of MMC-HVDC
a fault ride-through scheme based on direct current circuit breaker(DCCB)and dynamic braking resistors is proposed. During fault
the coordinated control of DCCB
wind farm modular multilevel converter(MMC)
braking resistors at high voltage direct current(HVDC)side and inside wind farm is designed to reduce the transients. Through the cooperation of DCCB
wind farm MMC and braking resistors
the fault can be isolated without blocking the MMC. Finally
the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed scheme is validated via PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results indicate that the system is able to safely get through the fault. After elimination of the fault
the system is quickly restored to normal operation.
