Considering impacts of wind power daily volatility on the unit commitment of conventional thermal generators
this paper designs three different day-ahead generation scheduling plan modes: maximum wind power output mode
economic operation mode and operation costs control mode. The two-stage optimization models for different scheduling modes and a novel algorithm are also presented. The proposed models can describe the connection between the operation costs and wind power integration capability. The first stage optimization is to minimize the operation costs or wind power curtailments
and the second stage optimization is to allocate load between conventional thermal generators and wind-storage combined generation stations based on fairness and economic principles. A modified IEEE 30-bus system with three actual wind farms is used for verification purposes. This work is supported by National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program) (No. 2011AA05A112).
