A new low voltage ride-through(LVRT)improvement scheme for fixed-speed wind turbines(FSWTs)based on converters is proposed. The scheme adopts back-to-back full power converters. The generator-side converter is used to stabilize the stator voltage while the grid-side converter is used to stabilize the DC bus voltage and export reactive current.Active power balance and reactive power compensation of FSWTs under fault conditions are realized.A new control strategy for generator-side converter is proposed considering the characteristic of FSWTs,which takes the stator voltage as control target and uses double closed-loop control of voltage and current to restrain the oscillation caused by the generator-side filter circuit.Simulation model of the 780 kW FSWT is developed with MATLAB/Simulink,and the experiment is carried out on a 110 kW motor platform. The results validate the proposed scheme.
