An improved supply current direct control scheme of active power filter(APF) is proposed. By detecting load current, the detect result can be used to feed-forward and extract the active load current as reference value for the APF controller. By using grid voltage feed-forward and system decoupling, the mathematical model is simplified to a first-order inertia model. The proportional-integral(PI) controller can track the reference value with no state error in contrast to the supply current direct control scheme of APF without load current detecting and have a better dynamic response. Simulation and experimental results show the correctness of the method.
