A dual stator-winding induction generator(DWIG) wind power system outputs high DC voltage over a wide range of wind speed, relying on the adjustable reactive power by the static excitation converter(SEC) on the control-winding side. DWIG wind power systems export power into the electricity grid without a boost converter. The special control strategy on the generator side helps to improve the capability of low voltage ride through(LVRT) during a voltage sag period. A model based on Simulink is built to simulate the wind turbines performance during voltage dips with a unity, a leading and a lagging power factor respectively. The reactive power support to the main electricity grid during voltage dips is also discussed. Simulation results indicate a satisfactory LVRT capability of DWIG wind power system, reactive power support with various power factors during voltage dips.
