Differing from conventional communication network(CN), CN for power system wide-area protection(WAP) requires not only high reliability, but also strict time-delay characteristics. Therefore, path selection of CN for WAP has particularity. To solve this problem, a routing selection model satisfying communication reliability and time-delay requirement for power system WAP is established and a method to solve the model is given as well. The model is suitable for optimal selection of information transmission paths in WAP normal state and path reconstruction after CN component failure. The results of case study show that the model and algorithm are simple, convenient, and exact. The model can proper balance the impact of reliability and time-delay influence on information transmission of WAP, and improve reliability of WAP information transmission as much as possible.
