Due to the large amount of branches and high grounding resistance of distribution networks, the grounding fault location problem has not been solved effectively. A novel method is proposed for locating the single-phase-to-earth fault section in a neutral point resonant grounded system. By this method, the compensation current of arc-suppression coil is adjusted after the fault occurs and the fault section can be identified by variation of zero-sequence current measured by multiple feeder terminal units(FTUs) equipped on the line. The method proposes that the zero-sequence current is converted by zero-sequence voltage when a single-phase grounding via resistance occurs, which solves the problem that zero-sequence voltage changes after the arc-suppression coil is adjusted. The on-site experiments have been carried out to prove the feasibility of the proposed method.
