Microturbines not only are capable of producing both heat and electric power, but also have the advantages of less emissions, high efficiency, easy installation and simple maintenance. They become the most promising distributed energy resources in microgrids with combined heat and power energy production. Based on dynamic characteristics of microturbine generation systems, V/f and PQ control strategies and sinusoidal pulse width modulation(SPWM) inverter technology, an overall model of a microturbine generation system is established with the concept of unified modulization. Using PSCAD/EMTDC software, the microturbine generation system with a dynamic load is simulated, and the interactions among the microturbine, power electronic converter and load are analyzed. Simulation results show that the dynamic characteristics of the established model are very close to those of a realistic system. The work in this paper builds the foundation for further research on collaborative control among various distributed energy resources in microgrids.
