Because of the distinct characteristics of distributed parameters, the relationship between measured impedance and fault distance of ultra high voltage(UHV) transmission lines is much different from that of high voltage(HV) or extra high voltage(EHV) transmission lines. The usage of shunt reactors renders extra complexity. In order to use distance relays on UHV lines, different schemes are proposed. This paper analyzes static characteristics of these schemes by formula derivation, impedance plane diagram and sub-circuit resistance characteristics calculation, which reveals that all proposed schemes satisfy the static performance requirements of relays. Digital simulation validates the correctness of the analysis results.
