A model for allocating optimal short circuit current limiting strategies in power systems is presented. The problem is modeled as a 0-1 mixed integer programming problem, with the decision-making variables including 0-1 integer variables to select current-limiting measures and common-integer variables to determine the capacity of reactors, fault current limiters(FCLs) and high impedance transformers. The mathematical model can be solved by a branch and bound algorithm. The feasibility of the method proposed is verified by the simulation results of an IEEE 9-bus system and a 19-bus system in West China.
