With the interconnection of distributed generation(DG), fault currents' direction of distribution networks are changed. Consequently, sensitivity decrease, mis-operation and malfunction of protective relays would occur. Two new schemes of feeder protection for the distribution network including DG are proposed. In the first scheme, the zoneⅠrelay of directional current protection on every line composes a communication unit with the zoneⅠrelay of the next stage protection on the adjacent line, and the relays can rapidly isolate fault according to the new setting principle and the operating results of two adjacent relays. The second one is based on the wide-area measurement technology, and the current protection at the exit of the first line is combined with the direction information detected by the directional elements at the terminations of the lines to exactly distinguish the fault section, ensure the upper protection's selectivity and rapidity. The simulation results of PSCAD/EMTDC verify the effectiveness of the two proposed schemes.
